About this Interview
With a majority of the nation’s schools being closed, teachers are facing a litany of challenges — ranging from keeping students engaged in an online classroom, to monitoring student progress in a virtual setting, to handling the fact that not all students have the same access to technology.
Dr. Blades shared her Top 3 Strategies for Engaging Students in an Online Classroom.
The NGSS were designed as “all standards for all students” -- rigorous science instruction, no matter students’ labels, demographics, or past experiences. Classroom teachers have the power to make the NGSS accessible for all, giving each and every student the opportunity to engage in exploration, discovery, science practices, phenomenon-based learning, and deep science content. Meeting the needs of diverse learners *doesn’t* mean “dumbing down” our science classes.
In this interview, Dr. Blades is a select panel member sharing her expertise on how to make NGSS truly accessible and engaging for diverse learners through rigorous, learner-centric instruction.
In this conversation, Dr. Blades shares about her personal journey as an educator, the evolution of the Gyrlfriend Collective, and her current work as a Teacher EmPOWAARment specalist.
Your lesson, should you choose to accept it, is to examine the factors contributing to, and find strategies to prevent or recover from, teacher burnout. The special agent assigned to help you with this task is Dr. Marquita Blades of Atlanta, Georgia.
